Sexual Abuse Litigation
New York’s Child Victims Act extended the statute of limitations on childhood sexual assault cases in the state. Under this legislation, survivors of childhood sexual assault can file a lawsuit against abusers and other liable parties until they are 55 years old. Victims whose previous cases have expired have a 1-year period to file a civil case under the new law.In addition to evolving legislation, developments in technology give sexual assault survivors a way to report abuses and provide support to other victims. The JDoe app is a free, anonymous smartphone app that can be used to report sexual abuse. The app also connects data to identify repeat offenders. If you or a loved one was a victim of childhood sexual abuse, contact The Russell Friedman Law Group, LLP.
